For such a time as this...

Purim started last night at sundown and is till sundown tonight. We are not doing anything special. In the past though, we have and it's a fun holiday especially if you have children, or if it has been a part of your life since childhood. For me, it has not However one day, when I am a Grandma I hope I can share Purim, the festivities and the lessons for my grandchildren. - but I do enjoy the cookies. :-)

In our congregation in San Francisco we would do events - like one year we had a play where I was Queen Esther. Another year, we held a puppet show and each of us, made our own puppet. That was both fun and creative. (and outrageous)  Still another year we each wrote a poem - and shared it. Some of the poems were comical, some were serious and spiritual, and others just rhymed good.

Whether a person festively celebrates with others or not - the main idea of it, that I get out of Purim and the book of Esther is,

Esther 4:14

"For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

 1. PRAY for Israel and the Jewish people
There are still some to this day who wish death and annihilation to Israel. I do believe they are God's chosen people and the apple of His eye. Bless Israel and yourself, PRAY for them daily. Pray for the peace in Jerusalem.

Psalm 122;6
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure."

2. Do not be complacent
Terrible atrocities have happened throughout the ages and it is always when people get fearful or caught up in their own lives.  We need to speak out against those who wish death upon Israel. PERIOD.  Israel is our friend.

John 15;13 "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

3. Allow the God of Israel to use you. Do Something!
Like Esther, we never know when our time has come, when God wants us to do something BIG - If Esther had not taken a stand, perhaps the Jewish nation of Israel would of been annihilated then and the evil Haman would of had his way. Not scripture but a good quote,

" Evil wins, when good people do nothing." Edmund Burke

You don't have to be Jewish to appreciate the spirit of Esther and Purim. Do good to others - help the poor and the downtrodden and be at peace with all mankind.

Romans 12;18
"If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men"

Comments are good - I admit, sometimes I don't respond back, in time for a dialog. I bad! I will TRY and do better. Thanks for understanding.
